Personalized private coaching

One-on-one coaching is an opportunity to work on your specific goals with personalized support from your coach, Me—Monique Melton. What makes my coaching distinct is the focus is on Black liberation, reclaiming our humanity. This means this type of coach is suitable for anyone seeking to experience liberation in their lives. I infuse multiple techniques and practices into this restorative process.

I have coached many one-on-one clients over the years to support them in accomplishing both business and personal goals. I have also created and coached many group coaching and learning experiences centered around Black liberation and anti-racism. Many of these learning experiences are now self-paced, peer-led and community-facilitated. This allows me more time to offer one-on-one services as this is something I thoroughly enjoy. However, I only work with a limited number of clients at a time.

FAQs

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Simply put, my coaching is an opportunity to work on specific goals and establish new practices that are rooted in Black liberation. Therapy is provided by a licensed professional who can treat mental illnesses and provide a therapeutic approach using techniques that they are trained and licensed to do. A therapist can also help you reach goals but often their approach will be different, such as by focusing on the mental and emotional as well as the past. Whereas a coach will focus on the present and actions you can take—mindset and beliefs are also explored but not in the same way. Coaches are focused on helping clients reach goals and taking action in their lives to reach those goals. A therapist will focus on helping clients understand why things are the way they are by diving into the past. They work to help clients with their mental health as well as managing mental health diagnosis.

It’s important to remember that working with me as your coach and educator is not therapy or a replacement for therapy. In fact, I highly encourage therapy. And most of my clients are also in therapy and continue therapy while working together. Therapist are licensed and trained professionals with the ability to treat and diagnose various conditions as well as offer support in various ways whereas with coaching we work with you to identify and accomplish specific goals and to take specific actions towards growth in specific areas of your life. Coaching is not therapy and is not a replacement for therapy.

At no point will I offer therapy or attempt to work on matters that are intended to be addressed in therapy.

What makes coaching with Monique different?

Eliza Barnett

“This experience has been so eye-opening to all the layers of racism and implicit bias that have lain unnoticed and undisturbed in me my entire life. I’ve been challenged to push beyond my own discomfort to get at the root of my beliefs and feelings, and then to do the work to actively change them. Because, as I’m learning, it’s not enough to just be “not-racist”, I need to be anti-racist, and that takes intention and action.”

I first came to Monique through her Money Work class, and what I discovered there surprised me. It's not just that I discovered new frameworks for how I think about, receive, and spend money, but that I gained a deeper awareness of the beliefs I'd been carrying my entire life without realizing it. That experience led me to work with her 1on1, and that's where things truly opened up for me.

In our 1on1 sessions, Monique met me wherever I was every single time. We explored everything from career challenges to navigating conversations with my kids about growing up. She also touched on processing my grief after losing my father-- not from a clinical place, but rather through the lens of my own humanity. She wove it relevantly and cohesively into many different discussions while helping me give myself necessary grace and permission to do so.

What stays with me most about Monique is her rare ability to offer honest pushback while simultaneously holding space for curiosity and authentic growth. She consistently points me toward books, people, and resources that make me feel supported long after our sessions end.

I'm now enrolled in her Reclaim program, which has been a powerful tool for understanding my own energy as I move through my activism work and as I help my children begin to understand it, too.

If you're considering working with Monique, especially in a 1on1 capacity, I can't recommend it enough. She brings a unique combination of knowledge, intuition, and genuine care unlike anything I've seen offered elsewhere.

Any organization would be fortunate to have Monique as a consultant to create a healthier, more well-rounded, more aware world.  We’ve all seen major organizations made huge, costly marketing mistakes that could have been avoided if Monique had been able to educate their teams. She is the right person for the job!”

“I was really impressed with Monique's breadth of knowledge on anti-racism. Monique provided real, actionable things that can be done on the daily to support anti-racism”

“The visualizations were wonderful and the soundscape really allowed for space to ease those constant thoughts.”

“Monique is INCREDIBLE. Her preparation was really professional, and her delivery of the subject matter was empathetic, kind, passionate, firm, and heartfelt. It would be an honor to work with her again, and I cannot recommend her more strongly.
